Celebrating Morah Chani Lew: Over 10 Years of Dedication at JOS
The Jewish Online School (JOS) is proud to feature teachers whose dedication and warmth create lasting impacts on students worldwide. One of these exceptional educators is Morah Chani Lew, who has been teaching at JOS for over a decade. Her passion for connecting with students and fostering a love for Judaism shines through everything she does.
A Decade of Global Teaching
When asked how long she’s been part of the JOS family, Morah Chani responded, “Over 10 years!” During that time, she’s connected with students in all corners of the globe, helping them grow in their Yiddishkeit no matter where they are.
The Joy of Watching Growth
For Morah Chani, the most rewarding part of her role is watching students grow in their Jewish identity.
“Seeing the kids grow in Yiddishkeit no matter where they are in the world—and being able to connect to Jewish kids all over the world—is the best part of what I do,” she shared.
Her ability to foster a love for Judaism in her students is a testament to her dedication and care.
Making Parsha Come Alive: A Parshat Vayeitzei Project
One of Morah Chani’s favorite subjects to teach is Parsha, and she knows how to make it come alive for her students. In a recent lesson on Parshat Vayeitzei, her students created a beautiful craft to illustrate Yaakov’s dream. Using a paper plate, they drew Yaakov in the center and surrounded him with 12 stones.
The project reflected the story of Yaakov placing 12 stones around him before he went to sleep. That night, he had a dream in which Hashem promised him protection, a large family that would spread across the world, and unwavering support wherever he would go. The students not only enjoyed the craft but also connected deeply with the powerful message of Hashem’s promises to Yaakov.
Beyond the Classroom
What does Morah Chani enjoy doing in her downtime? She laughed as she admitted, “Resting! But I also enjoy baking.” Rest and creativity seem to go hand in hand for this talented teacher.
Teaching Must-Haves
Every teacher has their own classroom essentials. For Morah Chani, it’s all about coffee and creativity.
“Coffee keeps me going, and my kids’ toys are perfect to use in class!” she said.
A Love for Parsha
Of all the subjects she teaches, Parsha is her favorite. Her passion for bringing the stories and lessons of the Torah to life inspires her students to connect with their heritage in meaningful ways.
A Hidden Talent
Many people may not know that Morah Chani has a creative side: “I make customized cakes and cookies!” Her attention to detail and artistry no doubt carry over into her teaching as well.
Why JOS Feels Like Family
What makes JOS so special to Morah Chani? “The students!” she said without hesitation.
But she also loves the supportive environment among the staff:
“We’re very much like a family, or a close-knit group. Even though I’ve never met 99% of the teachers I work with in real life, we all take care of each other. I’ve never experienced such a warm environment.”
Making a Difference Across the Globe
Morah Chani Lew’s dedication to her students and the JOS community has made her a vital part of the school’s success. Her ability to connect with students, no matter where they are, and foster a love for Judaism is nothing short of inspiring.
Thank you, Morah Chani, for everything you do for JOS! Here’s to many more years of making a difference in the lives of Jewish children worldwide.
