Bringing Parsha to Life

Morah Wilhelm has a remarkable approach to teaching Parsha, transforming each lesson into an interactive and meaningful experience. Her students don’t just hear the stories—they live them through hands-on projects and creative presentations.

For example, during a lesson on Parshat Toldot, which recounts the story of Esav selling his birthright to Yaakov for a bowl of lentil soup, one student took the initiative to make lentil soup for supper at home. This integration of learning and life is a hallmark of Morah Wilhelm’s teaching style, making her classes both impactful and memorable.

A Conversation with Morah Wilhelm

We spoke with Morah Wilhelm to learn more about her journey at JOS, her teaching philosophy, and what she loves most about her role:

How many years have you worked at JoS?
This is my seventh year.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
It’s hard to choose just one thing. I genuinely enjoy spending time with my students. They bring so much energy and excitement to learning Torah, and it’s a joy to engage with their enthusiasm each week.

When you aren’t teaching, what do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy puzzles, exploring math, painting, and spending time with my children.

What’s your must-have item for teaching at JoS?
A second screen—it’s absolutely essential for keeping my lessons organized and dynamic.

What’s your favorite subject to teach?
Parsha is my favorite subject. It allows me to connect with the students in a deep and creative way, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see how they relate to the lessons.

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
Interestingly, I never thought I would become a teacher. In fact, I used to think teaching was not for me. That changed when I discovered JoS, and I’ve been teaching here since I completed seminary. It’s been one of the most fulfilling decisions of my life.

What do you love most about JoS?
First and foremost, the incredible students. They make every day rewarding and fun. I also value the camaraderie and support of the amazing staff.
