Exploring the Legacy of the Rebbe Rashab: A Special Live Tour by Meir Danzinger

In honor of Chof Cheshvan, the birthday of the Rebbe Rashab, students of the Jewish Online School (JOS) were treated to a remarkable experience: a live virtual tour of the Rebbe Rashab’s home in Rostov, Russia. The tour was led by Meir Danzinger, a student of JOS, and his father, Rabbi Chaim Danzinger, a Chabad shliach to Rostov, whose deep familiarity with the historic site made the event truly unforgettable.

The Rebbe Rashab, Rabbi Sholom Dovber Schneersohn, was the fifth Rebbe of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement and played a pivotal role in shaping its future. His home in Rostov, where he lived during his final years, is steeped in history and spirituality. Rabbi Danzinger, who resides in Rostov as a dedicated emissary of Chabad, guided the students room by room, sharing insights and stories that brought the Rebbe's legacy to life.

A Journey Through the Rebbe’s Home

The tour began with the Rebbe Rashab’s personal quarters, including his bedroom and study, where students could imagine the Rebbe immersed in Torah study and prayer. Rabbi Danzinger’s knowledge of the house made the experience immersive, as he described the significance of each space.

Students were also shown the shul located within the house, which includes two distinct rooms: a larger space for communal prayer and a smaller, more intimate room for gatherings. The students were fascinated by the dual purpose of these spaces, which reflected the Rebbe’s dedication to both personal devotion and communal leadership.

Perhaps the most intriguing part of the tour was the mikvah in the basement. Rabbi Danzinger explained its historical context, highlighting the challenges of maintaining Jewish life during Stalin’s oppressive regime. The mikvah stood as a powerful testament to the resilience and faith of the Jewish community during those times.

A Memorable Experience

Reflecting on the tour, JOS Principal Chanie Hertzel remarked, “It was very, very nice. The students loved it. Rabbi Danzinger and Meir brought the house to life with their familiarity and passion. It was adorable and deeply meaningful for everyone involved.”

Special thanks were extended to Rabbi Jacobs for arranging this extraordinary opportunity. His dedication to connecting students with their heritage and inspiring them with the legacy of Chabad leaders continues to make a lasting impact.

This live tour was more than just a history lesson—it was a chance for students to connect with the life and teachings of the Rebbe Rashab in a personal and meaningful way. As they explored the Rebbe’s home, they not only learned about the past but also felt inspired to carry forward the values and vision of Chabad in their own lives.
